Bath & North East Somerset Council is teaming up with Somer Valley FM to promote a six-week health and wellbeing challenge.
The theme of the challenge is ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’, and local residents are being encouraged to set themselves a challenge under one of the following themes: Connect, Be active, Take notice, Keep learning or Give.
The Council and Somer Valley FM are now encouraging individuals and groups of people to sign up with their challenges before the launch live on Leah Looks Back on Saturday November 1, at 12pm.
Individual challenges this year include: a commitment to read literature; achieving weight loss; becoming a blogger; a three-generation gardening project; learning conversational German; growing a beard and running the Bath Half.
Cllr Simon Allen, Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, said: “This is a great community challenge and I’d encourage everyone living in the Somer Valley to get involved.
“This is about people in the community supporting each other to benefit their health and wellbeing.”
The challenge is all about putting the stamp of achievement on the year before it runs out.
The idea came from Somer Valley volunteer, Sue Roberts, who said: “The idea came to me when I was feeling guilty about not achieving some of my new year’s resolutions and I wanted to set myself a challenge to achieve them before the end of the year.”
Somer Valley FM’s station manager, Dom Chambers said: “We’ve been working to support Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Public Health team all year so I’m delighted that they have decided to work with us on the 6 Week Challenge, which is now in its third year.
“Using radio for positive health messages is community broadcasting working at its best.”
