Council Focuses On Social Media To Recruit Parking Staff

Bath & North East Somerset Council is looking for more staff to join its Parking Services team to help keep people moving across its World Heritage City, market towns and rural areas.

Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs) are the first point of contact for the Council on the street; responding to enquiries regarding all aspects of Council services and guiding visitors to their destinations.

The team also ensures parking regulations are complied with; to prevent blockages on highways and assist with increasing the turnover of shoppers.

The Council is pioneering a new approach to recruiting more CEOs; which includes the development of a Sector Based Work Academy in partnership with the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and Bath College.

This involves offering 10 unemployed local residents a two week customer service course linked to the CEO role, along with work experience placements.

Those that successfully complete the course and work experience placement then have the opportunity of a guaranteed interview for current CEO vacancies.

Councillor Anthony Clarke (Conservative, Lansdown), Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “Civil Enforcement Officers provide an essential service in Bath and North East Somerset; minimising illegal parking issues and also acting as an ambassador for the Council.

“In what we believe to be the first parking initiative of its kind in the country, we’ve teamed up with the DWP and Bath College to create the Sector Based Work Academy and enable interested jobseekers, who are out of work, to understand and sample the work of a parking CEO.

“We hope that by raising the profile of these quality employment opportunities and increasing access for local unemployed residents, the new Council Administration can not only meet its recruitment requirements but also help to get local residents back into work.”

Bath & North East Somerset Council welcomes job applications from people from a variety of backgrounds.

A promotional film has also been produced to help people gain a better understanding of the varied and challenging role.

The film features interviews with serving Civil Enforcement Officers who explain that although the job can be tough at times, it is also extremely rewarding – especially when helping members of the public or assisting with the staging of major events.

The video is available on YouTube as well as on the Council’s website (www.bathnes.gov.uk/ceo) and also via the Council’s Twitter feed @bathnes.

If you’re keen to find out more about the CEO roles available and wish to apply, visit https://jobs.bathnes.gov.uk/jobs/civil-enforcement-officers or call 01225 477133.
