The team who manage the new Hive Community Centre in Peasedown St John are now a step closer to creating an indoor play zone for the village’s children.

The new play area, which would use some of the space within the reception and café area of the building, is set to cost around £12,000.

Grants for the project have now been secured from the Quartet Foundation, Curo, the Peasedown Parish Council and Cllr Karen Walker’s Empowerment Fund.

With half of the funding being secured, an appeal has now been launched to raise the rest of the money needed.

Jill Souter, who is co-ordinating the play zone plans, said: “We’re dreaming of a fully accessible play area with a Hive-shaped Wendy House, see-saw and roundabout for children to play on, with a bubble tube, buttons to push, and handles to turn that will make exciting things happen.

“However, there is still a way to go, and the team are seeking support from the village community.”

Anybody who would like to see an indoor space where children aged under 8 can play safely, and would like to pledge financial support to the project, can visit the Hive’s website to donate at www.thehivepsj.org.

Jill added: “This last year has been so difficult for families. We would love to give them something really exciting to look forward to that is right on their doorstep and open to everyone, whatever their ability.”
