Thanks to the generosity of the public, over £8,000 has been raised from this year’s Movie by Moonlight outdoor screening of Moulin Rouge, which took place in Royal Victoria Park on Saturday.

The monies raised will go towards the Royal United Hospitals Bath Cancer Care Campaign.

Once again, the turnout to this event was spectacular, and the weather was perfect. Many people arrived with picnics, blankets and settled down to watch Baz Luhrmann’s musical Moulin Rouge.

Before the film aired, Heart FM presenter Julian Jones challenged the audience to form Bath’s longest line of can-can dancers and later on awarded a pair of cinema tickets to the best dressed person who came in costume on the night.

Emily Lynch, Events and Community Officer at the Forever Friends Appeal said: “On behalf of The Forever Friends Appeal, I’d personally like to thank everyone who made a donation on the gate on Saturday.

“Thanks to your generosity, over £8,000 will go towards the RUH Cancer Care Campaign – we’re so grateful! I’d also like to say a huge thank you to our proud sponsors Freestyle Designs, for sponsoring the event for the third consecutive year.

“We’d also like to thank Geoff and Nic Bissex of Filmair Cinema for bringing the magic of the cinema to Bath every year. Without Filmair’s support, the event would not happen.”

Changing the shape of cancer patients’ futures comes at a price and The Forever Friends Appeal is raising a minimum of £8.5m towards the cost of the RUH Cancer Centre, with the total cost estimated at £28 million.

The new cancer centre will be a state of the art building, taking a holistic approach to produce a highly beneficial healing environment for cancer patients and their families.

The Forever Friends Appeal’s next big event is Pounds for Patients, an exclusive event for nurseries, schools and colleges to get involved in and take part on Friday 13th October.
