As part of a year-long celebration of its 50th anniversary, the University of Bath is hosting its first ever free, community festival on Saturday 6th May.
Members of the local community are invited to join the University, its staff, students, alumni and neighbours for a day-long festival of fun.
Between 11am and 4pm at the University’s Claverton campus there will be a range of activities, displays, music, and food and drink for visitors to enjoy.
Meet some of the University’s world-leading scientists and researchers, take up a new sporting challenge, join a craft workshop or listen to a multitude of talks and demonstrations on topics such as health, science, technology and engineering.
At midday, you can watch the British Army’s Red Devils Freefall Team perform a spectacular parachute display as they join in with the celebrations, and explore the three zones open throughout the day – Active, Creative and Discover:
- In the Active zone, take advantage of Team Bath’s annual family fun day with 15 sports on offer, compete in a mini Olympics, scale the climbing wall and brave the zip wire, bounce on the inflatables, and spectate on variety of sports matches taking place.
- In the Creative zone at the Edge Arts Centre, get imaginative with chair making and tower building, try a range of arts and crafts and pottery, and stroll through the numerous exhibitions whilst soaking up the village atmosphere to the tunes of the brass band.
- The Discover zone is all about having hands-on fun. Fly a drone, meet a robot, build a crystal, explore the universe and put some of the University’s leading researchers to the test. In this area, take the opportunity to see, do and learn something new. Enjoy some of the more traditional activities such as hooking a duck and the coconut shy, and relax with an ice cream by the University Lake whilst listening to live music.
The University is expecting large numbers of visitors and is encouraging people to take advantage of a free bus service courtesy of First Bus, to and from Bath city centre.
For those not able to use the bus service, limited parking will be available on site on a first-come-first-served basis.
Vice-Chancellor & President of the University of Bath, Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell said: “We are delighted to be holding our first ever community Festival, and are looking forward to welcoming our friends and neighbours onto campus to enjoy the best of the University of Bath.
“The University is proud of its longstanding and close-working relationship with the city of Bath. For half a century we have contributed to the success of this wonderful city and as we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their ongoing support by hosting this fun and exciting event for all ages.
“I encourage everyone to join us on 6 May and look forward to meeting with as many of our visitors as possible.”
