Plans for new 68-bedroom care home at Bath’s Wansdyke Business Centre

Proposals to redevelop the vacant Wansdyke Business Centre site in Oldfield Park with a 68-bedroom care home have gone online for the public to view.

Barchester Healthcare is aiming to create a high-quality care home to cater for the city’s older population.

The company, which also runs the Oakfield Care Home in Weston, specialises in delivering short and long-term residential care, assisted living and nursing services.

The site will provide parking for staff and visitors, and incentivised schemes to encourage public transport and vehicle-free travel.

Members of the public are invited to view the proposals via an online consultation at www.wansdykeoldfieldpark.co.uk where they can also leave feedback regarding the scheme ahead of a planning application submission.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions on public gatherings, there will be no physical consultation event.

Barchester Healthcare’s proposal aims to support B&NES’ housing targets through the provision of residential accommodation whilst meeting the increasing demand for care and nursing home facilities.

The new care home is expected to employ approximately 68 new staff, with the majority of these positions being full-time.

Andrew Williams for Barchester Healthcare said, “We’re excited to be bringing these proposals forward for the public to comment on at this stage.

“Later-living is an extremely important topic which needs to be addressed now in order to meet the projected demand in the future.

“At Barchester Healthcare we are passionate about creating comfortable, practical and stylish places for those in our care and we are keen to hear from local people now to gain their feedback before our planning application is submitted.

“The proposals centre around quality care provisions for older people and we very much hope that the local community will support this scheme to allow us to provide facilities and services for older people in Bath.”

The proposals are available to view online at www.wansdykeoldfieldpark.co.uk.

The deadline for feedback is Friday 8th May 2020.
