Despite Peasedown St John’s Community Library being closed for the last 3 months due to coronavirus, its team of volunteers have been back at work again tending to the village’s community garden.
Last week, as part of National Volunteer Week, and following the government’s announcement that up to six people could meet in public, volunteers got stuck into what was a very overgrown, weedy green space.
Community Garden Manager, Nathan Hartley, said: “Our dementia-friendly garden was due some much needed ‘TLC’ after the national lockdown. No weeding or watering for 12 weeks meant it was left looking rather messy!
“As soon as the Prime Minister announced that up to six of us, from different households, could meet in public we got to work. The garden is large with two pathways, so four of us could easily social distance too.”
Community Library Volunteers Felicity, Chris, Betty and Nathan spent an afternoon pulling weeds, cutting grass and tidying up.
The village’s dementia-friendly community garden was opened last Autumn, following a one-year development project led by local gardener Karen Bourne, Councillor Karen Walker and Nathan Hartley.
Its creation was funded thanks to a £500 grant from Curo and a £500 grant from Apetito.
