Peasedown St John hosted its first, free seminar to demonstrate the use of one of the village’s four defibrillators at The Prince of Wales Public House last week.
Experienced First Aiders from The Community Heartbeat Trust, Chris and Cath Mackie, showed residents how to operate the defibrillator at the pub, how to recognise and treat a sudden cardiac arrest and how to carry out Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Councillor Sarah Bevan, who with Councillor Karen Walker funded the community defibrillators, said: “We were very fortunate to have experts like Cath and Chris on site to share their expertise with us.
“Thanks go to them and The Community Heartbeat Trust for supplying the defibrillators and giving up their time.
“Karen and I are planning further seminars in the new year, when we hope even more residents will take advantage of this free training, and make the difference between life and death for someone wherever they get into difficulties.
“Thanks also to hosts Gary Button and Kingsley Graves for their hospitality and spacious, seasonally decorated venue!”
Cath and Chris Mackie have been trainers for The Community Heartbeat Trust for two years, and have 39 years experience as First Responders between them.
They supply First Aid Training for local authorities and attend national/international martial arts events, are based locally in Shepton Mallet.
