A special event to remember 1918 through letters, poems and music is to be hosted by the Bath Poetry Café group later this month, ahead of the centenary of the end of the First World War.
‘Voices 1918: Remembrance Day’ commemorates the final year of the First World War through the words of those who were fighting on the frontline as well as families on the home front.
Supported by Bath & North East Somerset Council as part of its World War 1 Centenary programme, ‘Voices 1918’ will take place on Wednesday 31st October at 7.30pm at the BRLSI in Queen Square, Bath.
Councillor Paul Myers, Cabinet member for Economic & Community Regeneration, said: “This is the last of an annual series of events looking at the experience of the First World War through the eyes of those who were there.
“The evening will include a look back at how the Bath Chronicle covered the Armistice on 11 November 1918, and the Peace Celebrations of the following year, as well as memoirs and letters from local people.”
The event is free but a contribution to The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal is encouraged. The charity supports armed forces veterans and their families.
