National Fitness Day on Wednesday (7th  September) will see a range of free events and taster sessions take place across Bath & North East Somerset, provided by Better to help more people get active more often.

This year’s National Fitness Day, the biggest annual celebration of fitness and physical activity across the UK, will see leading retailer Argos become the headline partner, as well as offering a whole host of exciting activities throughout its 842 stores.

Better, the UK’s largest network of public gyms and leisure centres, are participating in this year’s National Fitness Day at over 90 leisure centres across the UK, including  Bath, Keynsham and Culverhay Leisure Centres, which follows on from Better’s involvement in the nation’s biggest sports day, I Am Team GB.

Free exercise classes including Aerobics, Circuits, Group Cycle and Yoga will be on offer with the aim to inspire people to get moving and to try something new.

Barnaby Rich, General Manager for Bath Sport and Leisure Centre said, “All staff at Bath Sports and Leisure Centre are proud to be part of National Fitness Day and host the free sessions.

“We’re inviting our local residents and members to come and try the different activities alongside our staff and join in with this UK-wide celebration of fitness and physical activity, and to see what we have on offer in the centre for all family members throughout the rest of the year.”

Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Chair of National Fitness Day organiser ukactive said: “National Fitness Day is a powerful tool to raise the profile of physical activity and the role it plays in increasing the health of our nation.

“By engaging people across the country we can help provide a pathway into continued involvement in physical activity.”

Tracey Crouch, Minister for Sport said: “With lots of taster sessions and free events, National Fitness Day is a fantastic opportunity to encourage greater participation in physical activity, in line with our sports strategy.

“Sport and physical activity can have a really positive impact on people’s lives, improving both physical and mental health – I hope as many people as possible get involved on the day.”
