A man was rescued in the early hours of Thursday morning by firefighters from the riverbank near Dorchester Street in Bath, after reports were received of a man in his 20s being close to the water.
Police were already on scene when fire crews arrived and had thrown him a safety line, which he had refused to take.
The Avon Fire & Rescue Service boat from Bath’s Fire Station was launched and crews assisted the man on board.
He was taken to safety and appeared to be unharmed.
He was left in the hands of police and ambulance crews.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service are taking the opportunity to remind people to take care when near the water.
Never walk home close to the water, always try to find an alternative route.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire & Rescue said: “This was a good multi-agency piece of teamwork and we’re glad it had a happy and positive ending.”
