Local charity Dorothy House has launched its latest appeal, inviting residents to celebrate the life of somebody special by getting involved with a special light display.
People can dedicate their own light on a firefly as part of an installation by local artist Bruce Munro, nestled in the grounds of the hospice.
Each light on a firefly represents a loved one, and together creates a place of wellbeing and serenity.
Last year saw the first firefly event being held, which was hailed a huge success.
This year, the charity is seeking as many people as possible to dedicate their own light on a firefly, and then to join them for the opening celebrations during the early evenings of 22nd and 24th September.
People are invited to arrive at Dorothy House’s hospice grounds at 7pm, where they will be greeted by staff.
Two short speeches will then be given by members of the Dorothy House team, and the evening will be accompanied by a harpist.
When you dedicate a light, the charity will send out a map, to help you find your light.
The gatherings of local people, all of whom have shared the experience of a loved one dying, are offered free of charge.
Those wanting to get involved are being asked to make a contribution to the ongoing maintenance of the display, and make a donation towards the cost of Dorothy House Hospice Care if they can.
In giving a gift, you’ll be dedicating your own special light on the firefly display for one year, at which point the Dorothy House team will contact you to ask if you would like to renew for a further year.
