The seventh Bike Bath took place at the weekend and saw nearly 1200 riders from across the region cycle to raise money for local charity Dorothy House.

In the last two years Bike Bath has raised thousands of pounds for local Bath charity, Dorothy House Hospice Care and further funds raised from this year’s event will be announced in the coming weeks.

Organised by cycling experts Iconic Cycling Events, the popular annual sportive is championed by leading home builders Redrow Homes which entered a team of five riders from the Southern Counties and West Country offices.

The ride is supported by many local businesses, as well as local MP Wera Hobhouse. Cyclists from 59 cycling clubs from across UK took part in the ride.

Enthusiastic cyclists of all levels tackled a choice of 25, 50 or 80-mile routes. Riders raised money for chosen charity, Dorothy House, a hospice providing care and support for people living with a life-limiting illness, their families and carers in Bath and North-East Somerset, Wiltshire and Somerset.

Riders also rode for another 29 different charities.

Riders enjoyed cheese supplied by local producers Barber’s Farmhouse and The Bath Soft Cheese Company, along with organic energy drinks supplied by Bath-based Scheckter and a celebratory pint of Bath Ale at the finish.

Food producers including Fruesli, Fyffes bananas, Graze flapjack and OTE Sports, supported the ride with high-energy food and drink. The event village marquee was sponsored by Bath-based HPH Commercial Property.

Richard Best, CEO of Iconic Cycling Events said: “Bike Bath has become a much-loved annual event where a cycling community of keen club riders, enthusiasts and families come together to cycle the glorious countryside around Bath.

“Thank you to all who helped to make this years’ ride happen. The goodwill of all those involved – from sponsors and supporters to food producers – helps us to achieve a positive and lasting impact for active lifestyles and great charities doing some impressive work in the community.”

Henrietta Beard, Corporate Fundraiser at Dorothy House Hospice Care said: “We’re proud to have been the chosen charity for Bike Bath since 2016. On behalf of Dorothy House, I’d like to extend our sincere thanks to all the riders who have donated to the hospice in recent years and to Iconic Cycling Events for their tremendous support.”

“Fundraising efforts like this help the hospice make a real difference to the quality of life of those affected by a life-limiting condition.

“Best wishes for the future to the Bike Bath team and to their next chosen charity for 2019, Mentoring Plus.”
