Following the success of the first Bath Marches last year, the event is returning next month with the opportunity for people to enjoy Bath and the surrounding countryside.

The Bath Marches is a mass-participation, charity fundraising event, which promotes healthy and active lifestyles.

Starting and finishing at the Bath Recreation Ground, the event will take place on Saturday 18th September.

Offering both a 9-mile and an extended 15-mile route, the Marches are suitable for all ages and abilities, with groups of friends, families, work colleagues or individuals being encouraged to take part.

The 2020 March saw school and charity teams, military veterans and serving personnel all take part, with ages ranging from 9 – 75 years old.

Tracey Pike, CEO of Youth Connect South West, said: “The Bath Marches is a wonderful opportunity to spend time in beautiful countryside, improving our health and wellbeing, as well as raising funds and awareness of the importance of charities working in our communities.

“Thanks to the organisers for this great event that showcases Bath and its people in all its glory.”

Both routes will take walkers through Bath, up and over the surrounding hills, ascending to the famous National Trust site Solsbury Hill and then returning to Bath along the picturesque Kennet and Avon canal.

The routes follow established footpaths, but the terrain presents several challenging sections, so a suitable level of fitness is advised.

Details of the routes are available on the Bath Marches website.

As well as marked walking routes, the Bath Marches has a number of other features including local, natural and military information at a series of stands around the routes and optional team tasks suitable for all ages to be completed during the walk.

Richard Best, founder of The Bath Marches, commented: “We look forward to welcoming hundreds of Marchers to Bath in September. Not only does the event promote the great outdoors but will also bring welcome investment into the city.

“Our first event last September was a great success for our charity partners, and we welcome anyone looking to raise funds for their own particular cause. We can promise them a fun, interesting and challenging day on the hills of Bath!”
