The Mayor of Bath, Councillor Rob Appleyard, inaugurated the new ball court at a recent ceremony.
In front of a large audience, the Mayor cut the ribbon and announced the Mayor’s Shootout Competition, which saw participants attempt to shoot a basketball through the hoop.
The winners of the competition, Luca House and Frankie Bishop, were each invited, along with six friends, to enjoy a celebration with refreshments and cakes at The Mayor’s Parlour at the Guildhall.
Following the competition, a basketball match was played between two teams from the Filipino Community, both of which were also invited to The Mayor’s Parlour.
The ball court is located at the Weston Hub community centre on Penn Hill Road, which is run by All Saints Weston.
The ball court is now a multi-sport area, complete with floodlighting, and can be used for tennis, basketball, volleyball, netball and five-a-side.
The Mayor said: “I would like to thank All Saints Weston for all they have done to bring the ball court back into perfect condition.
“This is a great addition to the local facilities in this thriving corner of Bath.”
Sir Peter Heywood, who also attended the ceremony, thanked Bath & North East Somerset Council for providing the funds for the restoration of the ball court through the Community Infrastructure Levy.
The court can be rented out through the Weston Hub website at www.westonhub.org.uk.
