The Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) is calling on their local supporters to join 2.6 million people coming together in support of charities across the country.
With more than 170,000 charities across the UK needing funding for the work they are doing right now, and need to do in the future, the nation is uniting on Sunday 26th April with one joint mission: to raise £67 million together, to support all charities.
The campaign is easy to join, and suitable for all ages. The idea is simple, they are asking the public to come up with a challenge which involves the numbers 2 and 6 – you could do something over 2.6 miles, 26 times, or for 26 minutes – the choice is yours.
On top of this, they are asking you to support your favourite local charities close to your heart – by donating or raising £26 or whatever you can afford.
Due to the cancellation of thousands of fundraising events and campaigns resulting in a significant loss of income, many charities across the UK have had to reduce or stop services at a time when their communities need them the most.
Despite the lockdown, Great Western Air Ambulance Charity’s Critical Care Team are still working and ready to save lives. However, many of their fundraising events have had to be cancelled which means they are currently looking at a net loss of £500,000 in income this year.
As a charity, they are completely reliant on generous donations from the communities they serve to raise over £4 million a year to continue saving lives across the region.
On top of their normal day to day service, the charity’s Specialist Doctors and Paramedics in Critical Care are also supporting the NHS in transferring critically ill COVID-19 patients between hospitals in the region, and providing a 24/7 telephone advice line to ambulance service crews.
You can join millions of people across the nation this Sunday and support your local air ambulance by making a donation or creating your very own 2.6 challenge.
