The A46 has been closed this morning between the M4 and A420 near Bath after a collision in the early hours, causing major disruption for travellers.

An Avon & Somerset Police spokesperson said: “At 3.46am we received a report of a collision involving a car and a motorbike on the A46, near the transport depot, just south of junction 18 of the M4.

“Emergency services attended and ambulance crews treated both drivers at the scene.

“The car driver sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment while the motorcyclist was taken to hospital with injuries that are neither believed to be life-threatening nor life-changing.

“The road remains closed while the road is cleared of debris.”

The southbound lane was reopened at around 8.30am, with recovery work ongoing on the northbound side.

National Highways says normal traffic conditions are expected by 12.30pm.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 3.38am on Friday 28th November to a road traffic collision near Tormarton.

“We sent one double-crewed land ambulance, and the hazardous area response team to the scene. We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Southmead Hospital.”
