Residents and staff at The Laurels Care Home in Bath celebrated recently as they were crowned the overall winners of a nationwide gardening competition.

The Laurels Care Home came first in the Growing for Gold competition, hosted by BBC Gardeners’ World presenter, Pippa Greenwood and organised by Embrace, a leading care provider.

Growing for Gold has seen individuals at more than 30 Embrace services throughout the country compete to transform their gardens.

The Laurels received its award at a special ceremony held in Birmingham at the August after impressing the judges with their gardening prowess and innovation.

Joby Jomy, Manager at the Laurels, said: “We are over the moon to have won Growing for Gold. The staff and residents had great fun planting and growing and we’re delighted that the garden has been given gold!

“We will be proudly displaying our trophy for everyone to see in our reception area and look forward to showing off our award-winning garden!”

Pippa Greenwood, regular panelist on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Gardeners’ Question Time’, said: “The standard of entries in Embrace’s Growing for Gold competition was really high.

“I’d like to say congratulations to all of the services that took part. There were excellent examples of gardening across the board and I’ve been really impressed by all of the entrants.”
