Care company Butterfly, which provides care at home for older people and those with physical and mental difficulties in Bath, has been rated good across the board by the CQC (Care Quality Commission).

The company, managed by husband and wife team Anne and Eric Pelling, has its office in Upper Bloomfield Road in Bath, where it began eight years ago.

Today Butterfly employs 74 staff across offices in Bath and Wiltshire and supports hundreds of people to stay at home and be independent every week.

Anne Pelling said: “I could not ask more of our staff in ensuring our service is outstanding, caring and responsive. We feel we do all we can to provide great care and ensure our clients always feel they are respected whatever their level of need.”

The CQC inspection of Butterfly in Bath took place in December last year. Staff, clients and health professionals were interviewed about the service provided.

The inspector concluded: “The service was responsive to people’s individual needs and wishes. People were cared for by kind, respectful and attentive staff. They and their relatives were given opportunities to be involved in the development of individual care plans.”

One issue raised was the occasional late arrival of a carer but clients confirmed they always received a telephone call to warn about this and Butterfly had taken action to limit this.

Anne said: “We are always looking to improve our services and as a result we are organising regular client forums to ensure we are listening to our clients.”

Highlights of the report included the high quality of end of life care provided by trained staff and the social events organised outside of the care given in the home.

This included tea parties twice each year for people who used the service and their families. Butterfly organise and run tea parties providing catering, entertainment and transport for those who need it.

Anne said: “We arrange these events to help our clients maintain links with the local community. This reduces the risk of social isolation and our staff will also refer guests to local support groups and will take them to those groups if transport is required.”

Butterfly was set up eight years ago in Bath by Anne who had a long and distinguished career as a carer.

Butterfly expanded into Wiltshire in 2013, and has a reputation for best practice in home care.
