Students from Bath’s Hayesfield Girls’ School recently took part in a workshop organised by Team Bath Netball and its Educational Partner Mogers Drewett.
The Year 10 to 13 students learned the strategies for defence and attack, and were given advice on healthy eating and the lifestyle needed to succeed in sport.
Mogers Drewett is backing Team Bath Netball for the 2016/17 season and is helping encourage young girls to enjoy the sport.
Team Bath Netball features Eboni Beckford-Chambers, a trainee solicitor in dispute resolution at Mogers Drewett, who also plays for the England national netball team.
Hayesfield Girls’ School was the first in a series of workshops being organised, with subsequent workshops planned with other schools, including The Corsham School in late January.
Louise Kelly, Head of Marketing at Mogers Drewett explained: “We are looking to work with 10 to14 students at our workshops, but some of the schools we are speaking to have asked Team Bath to work with two teams or a selection of their high performing athletes, so this number may vary along with the school year.
“The two Team Bath players who attended the workshop were Eboni Beckford-Chambers and Rachel Shaw. Each child was given a ticket to the team’s Tri Tournament on the 7th of January.
“Other schools will be given the option of tickets to games on 7th April (Manchester Thunder), 14th April (Hertfordshire Mavericks) or 22nd of April (Celtic Dragons).”
The arrangement with Team Bath Netball is part of Mogers Drewett’s ongoing commitment to supporting a number of sporting initiatives and organisations, and for the last two years has been a key partner of the Pentathlon GB team.
Eboni Beckford-Chambers said: “Working here and seeing at first hand how they have embraced netball, it is fantastic to have Mogers Drewett on board as education partner.
“There is a great alignment of the Mogers Drewett and Team Bath Netball brands – both celebrate excellence and inclusivity, and both have very positive environments.
“I could not have asked for more than the support that Mogers Drewett have given me, both as an athlete and in my professional career, and it is great to see them supporting other female athletes in Bath.”
Stephen Baddeley, Director of Sport at the University of Bath, said: “Mogers Drewett are helping us reach out further into the regional community to promote netball and also sports participation as a healthy option but also one which can give young people valuable and transferable lessons for life.”
