Documents requesting permission to demolish Bath College’s former Allen Building, and replace it with a new hotel, have been submitted to Bath & North East Somerset Council.

The building on James Street West in Bath, known as The Allen Building, was sold to Dominvs Group after a review of Bath College’s estates strategy.

Dominvs Group, a family-run property development firm which specialises in residential, hotel and commercial developments, purchased the site early last year.

If approved, the development will help Dominvs contribute to meeting the council’s Core Strategy to bring 750 new hotel beds to the city by 2029, adding to the new leisure quarter for the city, whilst offering employment of up to 100 people in a variety of jobs across the sector.

A spokesperson for Dominvs Group said: “We’re excited to be able to be in a position to bring forward proposals for the redevelopment of this site which we feel can make a valuable contribution to this growing leisure quarter of the city.”

“Bath is a city built on leisure and tourism and welcomes approximately 5 million visitors from around the world each year. If approved our proposal will help to meet the demands for tourist accommodation for many years to come.”

A public exhibition was held in early December, inviting residents to view the hotel plans and designs, and ask any questions they had.

The proposal for the demolition of the existing building and erection of new hotel is currently pending a decision, which is expected by the end of March.
