SRA Architects have announced that planning consent for Bath’s Bridgemead Care Home has been granted, paving the way for extensive new works to extend, improve, modernise and safeguard its future.
Bridgemead Care Home is located on the banks of the River Avon in Bath. The home is operated by Bridge Care, a Christian charity established 25 years ago to provide high quality residential and nursing care to Bath and the local area.
For them to continue to provide the best possible care, SRA Architects put together a proposal to safeguard against possible flooding on the site, in addition to extending and updating the home.
A number of high water events over the last few years have highlighted the need for the home to protect the residents from the risk of flooding.
Flood resilience measures to protect the existing home were put forward, as well as an extension to provide new residential accommodation for those residents who are currently located on the lowest level of the home.
The existing contemporary building is located within the B&NES Conservation area and a carefully considered design process was undertaken to ensure that the proposals are complementary and contextual with both the surrounding buildings and the home’s riverside setting.
John Todman, Bridge Care Trustee, said: “SRA has listened to the Trustees, residents, staff and our neighbours, assembled an excellent design team and prepared a proposal that meets our needs for an attractive, dementia friendly home that will serve us well for the foreseeable future.”
