The commercial units at the new Spring Wharf development in Bath have now been fully let with three leisure and retail occupiers signing deals, Deeley Freed Estates and Legal & General have announced.
Pure Gym, the chain of no-frills health clubs, has agreed on a 15-year lease for ground floor and mezzanine level space. It will be Pure Gym’s first centre in Bath, continuing its expansion into the South West following the opening of gyms in cities including Bristol, Exeter, Portsmouth and Plymouth.
Scoop Wholefoods, the UK’s largest zero-waste health food retailer, is expanding into Bath following the opening of its first store in Bristol. It has agreed a 10-year lease on the ground floor.
The final retail occupier, the American cycling icon Trek, has agreed a 10 year lease for the remaining ground floor space.
Formerly known as Roseberry Place, Spring Wharf occupies a prominent location alongside the junction of Lower Bristol Road and Windsor Bridge Road, as part of the Bath Riverside Enterprise Zone.
Construction of the first phase, which includes the residential apartments and retail units, has now been completed and the second phase is due to come forward shortly.
Duncan Costin, Property Director, Pure Gym, said: “Pure Gym is delighted to be opening our first site in Bath. The city has been a long-time target and finally we can bring our exciting gym offer to the people of Bath. We’re hopeful that this could be the first of several sites in the area.”
Stephie Mizzi, Managing Director of Scoop Wholefoods, added: “We are delighted to open our second zero-waste store in our home city of Bath, following the success of our first outlet in Bristol. This new outlet will be opening at Spring Wharf in March 2020.
“Scoop Wholefoods has the UK’s largest range of natural & organic wholefoods, with over 350 bulk foods, and hundreds more in reusable or home compostable packaging, all sourced from ethical and responsible suppliers, many of which are local to the South West. With competitive prices and free parking on site, we hope to become Bath’s sustainable alternative to a supermarket.”
Andrew Maltby of Deeley Freed said: “At a time of uncertainty for many retail and leisure operators we are pleased to see this development has attracted three successful businesses.
“This area of Bath is an increasingly attractive residential location and we have always envisaged Spring Wharf to be a vibrant local hub offering a healthy mix of new homes and retail/leisure space.
“We are pleased to see Phase 1 come to fruition and look forward to Phase 2 being equally successful.”
