Work is underway in a joint venture between MEO Projects and leading Bath-based property developer, Kersfield, to create four stunning new apartments next to one of Bath’s historic landmarks.
Set within the sought-after Lansdown area of the city, with commanding views over Bath, the Beckford Gate development takes its name from the Grade II listed gateway that stands at the southern boundary of the site and will comprise two large lateral apartments and two maisonettes.
Otherwise known as the Embattled Gateway, Beckford’s Gate was built in the 19th century and once formed part of William Beckford’s Ride, with commanding views across Bath and the surrounding countryside.
Built in a Georgian style, with a design that’s sympathetic to the character of the area and dressed in Ashlar Stone, the development replaces a 1960s suburban-style home, which lacked the scale and grandeur of surrounding properties.
Work will include essential repair of Beckford’s Gate, making it safe and arranging long-term stewardship and managed access so the public can once again visit the landmark.

Working with local architects, The Nash Partnership, the plans were developed in consultation with the Bath Preservation Trust, the Beckford Society and the Lansdown Crescent Residents Association.
While Beckford’s Gate now stands within an urban setting, the developers are planting additional trees to enhance the green backdrop, while preserving the appearance of the conservation area.
Completion is expected in Spring 2018 with Knight Frank, Bath and Savills, Bath appointed joint agents.
