Bath’s booming independent retailers are kicking off December with a Small Business Saturday celebration to encourage Christmas shoppers to stay local during the festive season.

On Saturday 6th December more than 20 of Bath’s independent retailers will be uniting to offer every paying customer a surprise gift from another of the participating shops.

Buy a second-hand Mulberry handbag from Grace & Ted and you might receive a free pair of earrings from Sisi & May.

A selection of festive beers from Independent Spirit of Bath might just get you a free £10 voucher for Aria Lingerie.

There are over 200 surprise gifts on offer, and they will be dished out on a first come first served basis, so shoppers in-the-know are expected to start early come the big day.

Emma Savage, co-owner of Grace & Ted, said: “Christmas isn’t just about Debenhams and Marks and Spencer. Bath’s array of independent shops is second-to-none and we want everyone to know about it, from locals and regular shoppers, to weekend visitors and international tourists.

“Bath’s Small Business Saturday is about encouraging shoppers of all ages to discover something new, and it’s also a way for us to say thank you to our incredibly loyal customer base”

This isn’t the first time Bath’s indies have united to incentivise shoppers to venture off the beaten track.

The 4th July saw Emma and Chris Scullion, from Independent Spirit of Bath on Terrace Walk, organise a treasure hunt across the small retailers of the city, to celebrate Independent’s Day.
