Last Monday, a Policy Development and Scrutiny Panel for Early Years, Children and Youth held a public contributor session as part of their home to school transport review.

The Panel are looking at all forms of home to school transport currently subsidised by the Council to investigate the impact that the policies have in terms of parental choice and cost of delivery. At the meeting, the Panel heard from a variety of contributors including parents, governors, students and Head Teachers.

The meeting was part of a wider consultation process being undertaken by the Panel. A questionnaire is available on the Council’s website until 2nd November: http://tinyurl.com/btcf6qm  and interested members of the public can still submit their views via e-mail to [email protected] or letter to ‘Home to School Transport Review’, Policy Development and Scrutiny Team, 2nd Floor Guildhall, High Street, Bath, BA1 5AW.

Councillor Sally Davis (Con. Farmborough), Chair of the Early Years, Children and Youth Policy Development and Scrutiny Panel, said “On behalf of the Panel, I would like to thank all of the people who were able to attend our contributor session for raising their concerns and suggestions for the future of home to school transport. For anyone who was not able to attend the meeting but would like to take part in the consultation, they can still contact us via e-mail and letter.”

The Panel will be considering all of the evidence they have gathered so far before developing their final report which will be published in January. The report will contain recommendations which will be presented to the Council’s Cabinet who can choose to accept, reject or defer the Panel’s suggestions. If there are to be any changes to home to school transport policies, these would be announced in Summer 2013 and come into force from September 2014.
