A Recruitment Open Day is being held at the Royal United Hospital on Saturday 8th June, for anyone interested in finding out more about our opportunities for nurses and health care assistants.

The recruitment event will take place in the hospital’s atrium from 10am to 2pm.

As a result of significant investment in our nursing staff, the RUH currently has vacancies for nurses and health care assistants (HCAs) in a number of its medical and surgical wards across the hospital.

A nurse is a key part of the medical team. In hospital settings nurses often provide the most patient care, liaising with doctors, administering medications, supervising the use of medical equipment, observing and directly caring for patients, and acting as intermediary between patients and their families and physicians.

HCAs are invaluable members of the health care team, supporting nurses and helping out with many daily activities on wards and in clinics. Under the supervision of registered nurses HCAs may get involved in recording a patient’s blood pressure, pulse and temperature as well as undertaking general duties such as bathing a patient, assisting at mealtimes and keeping the ward tidy.

At the recruitment event potential recruits will be able to go on tours around the hospital to see what life is like on the wards. They will be able to talk to nurses and HCAs about their roles and also meet senior nursing staff. Members of the hospital’s Learning and Development team will also be on hand to answer any questions about career development and training that can be undertaken.

Staff from the recruitment department will be available to provide practical help about applying for a post.

Candidates interested in applying for posts should visit the RUH careers website and apply online. The deadline for applications is Wednesday 12th June 2013  – www.ruh.nhs.uk/careers/vacancies

Lynn Vaughan, Director of Human Resources at the RUH, said: “Offering an open day like this is an ideal way of attracting potential recruits and also gives them an idea what it is like to work in a hospital environment.

“As an employer, the RUH offers staff many benefits such as training or re-training, flexible hours, access to childcare, subsidised staff meals, free uniform and the opportunity to join the Oasis sports and leisure facilities including swimming pool, and a comprehensive pension scheme.

“We have a fantastic range of opportunities on offer at the RUH and I would strongly urge anyone interested to either come along to the hospital or telephone the recruitment team on 01225 821142.”

“Do consider joining our team and really make a difference to our patients.”
