The city’s biggest youth record label, BA1 Records, is asking people from Bath and beyond to help its acts to become the next big thing in the music industry.
BA1 Records has launched its online A&R competition to celebrate the best of the local area’s young breakthrough musicians. By logging on to www.ba1records.co.uk you can vote in the Trackfactor and Dubplate Factor competitions which showcase tracks from the best of BA1’s talented musicians.
Music fans can listen to each of the tracks and rate them online. The best of the artists will then be narrowed down a handful of finalists which will perform live in front of influential players in the music industry including Don Kennedy (Daddy Longlegs), Rhys Priory (Revolver) Alex Lupo (Babyhead), DJ Appleblim and DJ Arkist.
Max Weedon, Head of BA1 Records at City of Bath College, said: “This is an innovative A&R process, designed around a Motown model, where we get to hear original songs by up and coming bands and give feedback.
“In past years our A&R processes have given acts vital experience and raised the profile of some of Bath’s best young breakthrough musical acts, including Gabrielle Aplin, Slugabed, Julio Bashmore, Bite the Buffalo, Laura Doggett and Largo Embargo.
“The finalists from the competitions will perform live in Bath and get advice and guidance from some of the local music industry’s biggest names.
“I hope that music fans in Bath and throughout the local area will support the city’s up and coming musicians by logging on to www.ba1records.co.uk and casting their votes as well as sharing their favourite tracks on Twitter and Facebook. By supporting this process they are helping to launch the careers of the musical stars of the future.“
