To coincide with the nationwide ‘Love Parks Week’ being held 23rd – 31st July 2011, Bath & North East Somerset Council is encouraging people to use Twitter to send their favourite snaps of parks in the area and describe what they like best about local fantastic green spaces.
The person with the very best amateur photo and most interesting reason for loving their park will win a £50 prize. The best of the rest will be put to practical use on the Parks section of the Council website for everyone to see.
All people need to do is send their pictures and reason using the @bathnes tag by September 16th 2011.
Councillor David Dixon (Lib-Dem, Oldfield), Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said, “Parks play an important role in improving our quality of life as places to learn, relax, and take part in activities or events. Bath & North East Somerset Council is committed to improving public spaces and we want people to tell us what makes our local parks so special to them and their family. There is no better time to launch this initiative than ‘Love Parks Week’ and people will have all summer to submit their entry.”
The picture could be anything, such as an activity or event taking place, a family day out, a sunset or sunrise, or a scene of nature – like wildlife or floral/ plant displays. The sentence should say which park the picture is taken in and why you love your park.
Graham Evans, Parks and Estates Manager at the Council, added, “The Council’s Parks Teams work hard all year round and we are really keen to see what people notice in the parks and what they value.”
The contest is also being run through Connect Magazine – the Council’s quarterly magazine distributed to 76,000 homes – and replaces the normal competition. It will be judged by the Council Park’s Team. Employees of the Council and Media Clash are very welcome to send their photos but are not eligible to enter the competition.
