Anyone having a New Year clear-out is invited to attend the Bath & North East Somerset Council’s next Give and Take Day at the Beacon Hall, Peasedown St. John, on Saturday 21 January 2012 from 10am – 2pm.
Residents will have the opportunity to give away reusable items they no longer need or take things that they do need, all for free.
At previous events residents have donated a range of fantastic items including a car bicycle rack, sets of golf clubs, an inflatable swimming pool, a children’s slide, bicycles and a pair of walking boots.
The aim of the day is to reduce the amount of unwanted household items ending-up in landfill and costing the local taxpayer money in landfill charges, as well as reducing the amount of harmful gases being released into the atmosphere.
All residents need to do is bring along their unwanted reusable items (not broken or electrical) and donate them at the Beacon Hall from 9am with the last donation accepted at 1pm. They will only accept small pieces of furniture or items that will fit into an average sized family car.
Badged volunteers will receive, check and sort your items on the day. Anyone is free to browse the collection of donations and take away items, although the Council is encouraging people not to take away more than 10 items.
For this event only, ReCYCLEd, the Bath Bike workshop founded by Julian House in Bath, will be on hand to offer a free safety check and small on the spot repairs to any residents’ bikes brought to them on the day. They will also check any bikes donated on the day and offer advice on safe cycling
Advice on recycling, reducing household waste and home composting will also be available. For more details contact Bath & North East Somerset Council on 01225 39 40 41 or [email protected] or text SMS: 07797 806545.
