This week, The Pig is mostly…

RAISING several glasses to our boisterous beer buddies at Chapter One (London Road). This glorious independent hostelry has reopened its doors (albeit for takeaway/off-sales only at the mo), got their very own microbrewery (Verse Brewing) up-and-running and launched a spiffing new website – good work, Emma and Michael! (https://chapteronebath.co.uk/)

RAISING yet more glasses to Flan O’Brien’s (corner of Westgate Street/Saw Close) on their recent announcement that Bath’s long-standing traditional Irish pub has cast off the Big Brewery shackles and become an independent freehouse – good work, Miles!

ANTICIPATING tantalising, innovative mind games a-plenty at Digital Entertainment Collective Raucous Caucus’ forthcoming events at The Grapes (Westgate Street). First up, the Bartenders Guide To The Galaxy on Monday 5th October swiftly followed by the fascinating Playing With Your Food (in collaboration with the pub’s resident Japanese Izakaya hosts Budo Bar) on Friday 9th October (https://raucus-caucus.square.site/events)

INTRIGUED by – and looking forward to seeing the results of – the recent renovations undertaken by the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel (Walcot Street) which includes the opening of the brand new Fusion Restaurant plus cafe, bar, alfresco terrace and internal ‘Secret Garden’ for afternoon tea and events (https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/bathndi-doubletree-bath/dining/)

VEGGING out at OAK (North Parade Passage) which grew from the little meat-free bistro formerly known as Acorn and is now open for brunch, lunch, coffee and dinner… and shopping courtesy of an onsite grocery specialising in organic, biodynamic and low intervention ingredients (https://www.oakrestaurant.co.uk)

JUGGLING mixed emotions following the latest government guidelines forcing pubs to adopt a 10pm curfew. And I’m not alone in the confusion!  According to our most recent Pig Guide Twitter survey, 55.1% of our Twitter followers said that the new rule has made them feel “scared about what’s coming next”, while 44.9% told me that they’re “angry about right now.”  Got an opinion on the subject? You know where I am!)
