This week, The Pig is mostly…

GETTING hot under the collar at the very thought of fermented Jalapeño Hot Sauce (‘Hell Sauce’ no less), now available to order from Thoughtful Bakery alongside – ta-daa! – limited edition fresh Nduja, a paprika-laden southern Italian speciality that, once tasted, you won’t be able to live – or at least, cook  – without (https://thoughtful-bakery.myshopify.com/collections)

PLAYING I-Spy with my little pie-eye in readiness for the next Packhorse at Home night: Pie and Mash, Saturday 27th February. The perfect pies (Beef and Ale, Chicken and Leek or Broccoli and Stilton) serve four people and come accompanied by generous portions of mash and greens, all ready for you to finish off at home for a stress-free feast-for-4 for  £40. To order, drop the Packhorse peeps a line on [email protected] (subject: Pie Night) and collect from the pub on Saturday 27 February (payment will be taken on collection) (https://packhorsebath.co.uk/news-events/packhorse-at-home-pie-and-mash-night-saturday-27th-february/)

GETTING my 5-a-day+ courtesy of Widcombe Fruit and Veg Boxes, a new initiative formed as the result of a collaboration between Larkhall Farmshop and Larkhall Butchers. The boxes (just veg, just fruit or a mixture of both) are available in a variety of sizes and prices to suit all budgets, and each one is packed with a vibrant range of seasonal, largely locally sourced produce. To order, call the butcher boys on 01225 313987, email [email protected] or drop into the shop. Your order will be ready to collect from Larkhall Butchers from 1pm the day after ordering.

NOT keeping mum about Mother’s Day (Sunday 14th March.) Give your mummy the yumminess she deserves courtesy of No 3 Cafe’s Mother’s Day Treat Box laden with shortbreads, cupcakes, cakeisles and heart-shaped cake bites for two, all beautifully boxed up and ready to go for just £15. There are, however, only 15 boxes available… but if you don’t manage to move fast enough, what about gifting mum a Brunch Box for two, packed with berry/nutty overnight oats, smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, waffles/pancakes with syrup, mini Danish pastries and fresh smoothies for just £25; message @SarararaCoffee on Twitter or call 07585 838272 to order either (and more!)

MERRILY educating myself about the multiple joys of Portuguese Terra d’Alter wines on Thursday 4 March when Terra d’Alter winemaker and oenologist Peter Bright will be co-hosting a Virtual Tasting event with Le Vignoble. The £45 price includes three full-size bottles of Terra d’Alter wines (Estate White, Aragonez Zero So2 and Varietal Alfrocheiro), a guided tasting, the full Terra D’Alter lowdown and, of course, that all-important Zoom invitation (last orders for participation Monday 1st March) https://levignoble.co.uk/events/virtual-tasting-with-terra-dalter
