This week, The Pig is mostly…
YET again congratulating MD of the Bath Pub Company Joe Cussens who has filmed a short but riveting exposé explaining and exploring how the government’s Covid support grant scheme is failing his business and distorting the competitive landscape, resulting in a hard-hitting – and thoroughly enlightening – watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZHKJw2RhBs&t.
APPLAUDING FoodCycle Bath’s recently-launched Cook and Collect initiative, which offers a free, nutritious meal – prepared and freshly-cooked by FoodCycle Bath volunteers from surplus/donated food – for collection from Nexus Methodist Church (Nelson Place) every Wednesday at 7.30pm (https://www.foodcycle.org.uk/location/bath/)
OFFERING full support to every restaurant that takes a non-refundable deposit on bookings to safeguard against the thoughtless, ignorant and downright rude behaviour of the ‘no show’ brigade, who give no thought to the dire consequences of their actions and the devastating effect that their thoughtless behaviour has on many small, independent businesses. Booking no-shows? The Pig says No Way! Do we feel a campaign coming on? Watch this space…
WISHING a very warm reopening welcome back hug to mes amis Chez Dominique (Argyle Street) – the place to go for that all-important taste of a Parisian bistro, in Bath. Visit their website to view their spiffing fixe prix menu (£20 for 2-courses, £24 for 3) and make that all-important booking (https://www.chezdominique.co.uk/)
REALLY looking forward to meeting’n’greeting the Bath Priory’s brand new Executive Chef Juaca Catalin, who joined the BP fold during lockdown in April and has since spent his time working on brand new menus to be launched when the hotel opens its doors again later on in the year (https://www.thebathpriory.co.uk/dining-drinking/head-chef)
DIGESTING and discussing the result of the most recent Pig Guide Twitter survey, in which we asked if the temporary 15% VAT cut for the hospitality industry should be retained as a bonus for businesses or passed on to the customer. Only 17% of Piggies want the benefits to be passed on to the customer, while a whopping 83% of respondents view the discount as much-needed support for businesses. Got an opinion on the subject? You know where I am!
