This week, The Pig is mostly…

PARTY on down at Butcombe pubs every Monday – Thursday throughout September to reap big Butcombe Food & Beer Festival rewards including Burger & Beer/Pie & Beer for a tenner on Mondays/Tuesdays, 25% off all food all day for Butcombe Loyalty Club members on Wednesdays and £10 Fish Market Specials on Thursdays. In Bath/nearby environs, we’re talking the Pig and Fiddle (Saracen Street), The Methuen Arms (Corsham) and the glorious Quarrymans Arms on Box Hill, but there are several more in the family; plunder the full list of participating pubs here: https://butcombe.com/pubs-rooms/.

DELIGHTED to hear that, following on from the success of his inaugural pop-up Tasting Menu event hosted by the Peking Restaurant (Kingsmead Square) a couple of weeks ago, superchef Jacky Chan will be returning to the Peking at the end of September to once more showcase his culinary skills. Watch this space for full details… and whet your appetite by reading our review of the first event here: https://thepigguide.com/review-stage-jacky-at-the-peking/.

HOWLING with excitement at the news that the Wolf Saloon – coffee, beer and wine (what’s not to love in that line-up?) courtesy of, of course, those lovely Wolf Wines head honchos – is open for business at 72 Lower Bristol Road. Cheers, guys! (https://wolf-the-saloon.business.site/)

BARTERING my gluts out (!) at the Thoughtful Bakery (Barton Street) – and you should, too. If you have surplus fruit or vegetables loitering in your garden/larder/fridge, put ’em to good use here – the bakers get incredible local produce to work with, and you get incredible baked goods in return. Fire the ovens up, boys! I’m comin’ atcha with my plums… (https://thoughtful-bakery.myshopify.com/)

PLANNING on milking Bath’s very first milk vending machine when Somerset farmer Andy Salmon launches his fresh new initiative on Tuesday 1 September at Green Park Station. The milk – from a herd of 240 cows grazed just 13 miles from Bath – will be delivered from Andy’s farm every morning, and available in refillable 1-litre glass bottles; now that’s very good moos indeed!
