This week, The Pig is mostly…

IN total awe of the Kinder Kitchen initiative, providing free, vegetarian, freshly cooked meals to local people in need in Bath and West Wiltshire. Longs Arms’ superchef Rob Allcock has thrown all his efforts into the venture and is voluntarily cooking every week with fresh produce from wonderful Lovejoys, bolstered last week by generous donations from New Macdonald’s Farm and the Luscious dairy fairies (Neston Park.) Get on board with your support! Read all about Kinder Kitchen and make that all-important donation here: https://www.kinder-kitchen.com/donate.

SO very sad to see long-established Green Street butchers Bartlett & Sons close their doors for good – yet another stark reminder that our local businesses need all the support they can get. Please, please, Piggies: use them or lose them; this is no longer a warning, this is a call to arms.

KICKING Cupid to the kerb before V-day Weekend gets a grip to celebrate Chinese New Year (and welcome the arrival of The Year of the Ox) on Friday 12 February. Don’t know your Egg Foo Yung from your Kung Hei Fat Choi? Let the experts plan your party; get your Peking order (home delivery or click’n’collect) in today! (https://www.pekingrestaurantbath.co.uk)

PINGING my order to Bath’s very own MasterChef champion Ping Coombes who is trialling her very first Ping At Home ‘finish at home’ dish this week with a whole roasted, spatchcocked Satay Chicken Kit. The chicken (big enough to feed 4) comes courtesy of those lovely Larkhall Butcher boys and is packed up with a special blend marinade, satay sauce and cooking instructions. The introductory price for this far-from-paltry poultry feast is just £20, but you’ll have to move quick to get your chick! Preorder by 6pm on Tuesday 9 February and collect your kit at Larkhall Butchers on Friday or Saturday; email [email protected] to get clucking – sorry, cooking.

FLUTTERING my eyelashes in the direction of Lucknam Park’s luxurious Valentine’s Weekend takeaway (Friday 12-Sunday 14 February). Michelin-starred chef Hywel Jones has created an exquisite 5-course menu for two to include fabulous dishes such as roast Scottish diver scallops with lobster cream sauce, braised Stokes Marsh farm beef with crushed truffled celeriac, and passion fruit tart with exotic fruit chutney for £120 per couple. Your feast can be collected from the hotel reception and comes with reheating instructions; to order, email [email protected] or call  01225 742777. Swoon! … and offering inspiration to all in readiness for the Most Romantic Weekend of the Year! If you want to keep it simple, keep the lurve local with an at-home picnic of cheese, olives and antipasti from Goodies Deli (free delivery service Wednesday-Saturday for orders over £10, piggies!), bread, brownies and divine doughnuts from Thoughtful Bread and fizz from Novel Wines (https://www.goodiesdeli.co.uk / https://thoughtful-bakery.myshopify.com / https://www.novelwines.co.uk)
