The Egg Christmas Show this year is an energetic powerhouse in the form of Robin Hood.

Written by Daniel Bye and directed by Jennifer Jackson, the new take on the romp through Sherwood Forest brings fun, danger and ultimate victory for all.

Loosely based on the original tale, we meet Robin (Sam Liu), John (Tom Mckean), Marian (Harriet O’Grady), Much (Ellian Showering), alongside a dastardly Sheriff (Dan Wheeler) and a surprising King Richard at this performance played by (Momoko Mackey).

The whole company are utterly engaging, the energy never falters and the story moves at pace with occasional multi role playing with a huge sense of fun.

The original music composed by Verity Standing is captivating, often acapella with multi-layered harmonies with inventive use of the props and set to propel the story forward.

As expected Robin Hood is full of conflict both morally and physically. Maisie Carter as Fight Director has captured both humour and darker moments with ease, bringing a great sense of fun for the audience.

There is so much to enjoy in this often dark tale. Without any spoilers, Act 2 takes a surprising turn with the arrival of King Richard and the role, at this performance, was in very safe hands with Momoko Mackey.

Against an inspired design by April Dalton, the multi levels are used to great effect against an atmospheric lighting design from Bethany Gupwell.

There is lots to enjoy in this Christmas offering, the age advisory is 6 which feels rightly judged for this lovely treat.
