Remythed is Bet’n Lev Theatre’s debut production, which first premiered at VAULT Festival in 2023, where it won ‘Show of the Week’.

The production has since toured in 2024, achieving sell-out shows at Omnibus Theatre, Clapham as well as having an acclaimed two-week run at Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The company of Emile Clarke (He/Him), Ishmael Kirby (He/They), Roann Hassani McCloskey (She/They), Joel Samuels (He/Him), Lucy Roslyn (She/They) bring more than 30 characters to life to create an ever morphing tale of characters from ancient history.

The focus is on retelling the stories of famous and forgotten LGBTQIA+ figures from the past, reshaping what queer history could look like and putting queer joy in the front and centre of the narrative.

The traditional stories range from Sheherazade to Lady Godiva and many more. Shifting through different cultures and travelling the globe. The result is is a show based in the love of friendship and community where queer history can be considered rather than erased or overlooked.

Bet’n Lev Theatre is a proud home for global queer storytelling. Reflecting co-Artistic Directors Roann Hassani McCloskey and Joel Samuels, the production company’s name is an anglicised version of ‘belly’ in both Arabic and Hebrew, whilst Lev is Hebrew for ‘heart’.

With several awards already in place for the artistic team, this new company is creating vital work to alter the gaze of the audience and consider a more nuanced vision of life through a queer lens.

The production is touring until July.
