Letter: Parties pushing their current leader as the person you have to vote for

Why do both Conservatives and Labour keep pushing their current leader as the person you have to vote for in the General Election?

The whole point of a general election is for each person in a constituency to vote for someone that is going to listen to AND stand up for their views. The leaders of any political party can change without any say from the general public and therefore, we may even end up with someone totally different as Prime Minister and negotiating our exit from Europe.

You should focus on what is important to you and who will stand up for what you want, not just toe the party line when it comes to voting.

We have a choice here in Bath to vote for someone that has said they support us locally but votes differently in parliament, saying “it is for the good of the country”, or someone that will vote for what the majority of constituents want. Look at the results in previous years and you will see which parties have a chance of winning in Bath, don’t just accept what you are being told on the doorstep.

I fought long and hard for a secondary school to remain in the South West of Bath, neither the local authority or our most recent MP has stood up for parents in this area to help promote or save this school, which will see me having to go from paying nothing to currently get my son to school to approx £325 per year, this is money I and many others do not have. It is the hidden costs that they do not tell you about when they try to sell their ideas to you.

Please USE your vote on 8th June and vote for the candidate that will give YOU the best voice in parliament.
