Local young people are to be given their say on how services designed for them are run, with the Council wanting to recruit a team of youngsters to serve on a Youth Council.
The Youth Council will be led by its members. It’s hoped those who have never been involved with Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Youth Connect services will join to help give a fresh perspective and contribute new ideas, on the provision of services for young people.
Youth Council sessions will be held at Peasedown and Radstock Youth Hubs, with a Youth Conference planned for February half term.
Cllr Dine Romero (Lib-Dem, Southdown, Cabinet Member for Early Years, Children and Youth, said: “We are looking for young people who would like to actively get involved with campaigning about issues that affect them in their local area.”
Youth Connect is the new name given to the Council’s services for young people in Bath and North East Somerset.
It provides a range of services from positive activities and advice to individual support for young adults between 11 and 19 and young people with learning disabilities, aged up to 25, who are moving on into work or training.
The Somer Valley covers the towns and parishes of Farrington Gurney; High Littleton; Midsomer Norton; Paulton; Peasedown St John; Radstock; Tisbury and Westfield.
The initial meetings of the Youth Council will be held at Radstock Youth Hub on Monday 5th January at 7pm and Peasdown Youth Hub on Monday 12th January at 6.30 pm.
