Fire engines, paramedics and the Great Western Air Ambulance’s critical care team were all scrambled to the new Gainsborough Hotel development this afternoon after a worker on the site became unwell.

It is believed he was at height on scaffolding surrounding the building when he passed out at around 3.30pm, leading paramedics to request the help of Avon Fire and Rescue’s ladders to assist the patient.
The Great Western Air Ambulance’s team of specialist doctors were also sent by road in a specialist Air Support vehicle to the scene to give life-saving care to the man if required.
The new 5-star Gainsborough Hotel in the city-centre is owned by Malaysian group YTL Hotels and is currently being built for £16.2 million by construction group Galliford Try.
The man appears to have fainted in the heat while working, though he was well enough to walk to an ambulance when it arrived.
He has been taken to the RUH for a check-up.
