A woman has died after a serious multi-vehicle crash which closed both ways of the A36 between Limpley Stoke and Farleigh Hungerford last night.
The female driver of one of the vehicles, a Suzuki Alto, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fire crews from Bath and Radstock Fire Stations arrived to find the collision had taken place between the Suzuki Alto car and a Chrysler Grand Voyager.
A 16-year-old passenger who was also in the Suzuki was rushed to the RUH for treatment. The male driver of the Chrysler, believed to be in his 30s, was also taken to hospital.
Police were alerted to the scene at around 7.30pm, with members of the public stopping to help the injured drivers. One member of the public stayed at the scene for over an hour assisting the emergency services.
The crash happened near to the junction of Green Lane at Hinton Charterhouse onto the A36 towards Limpley Stoke.
Fire crews waited for police collision investigation officers to attend and collect evidence before being able to release the body of the woman from the Suzuki, which they did using hydraulic cutting equipment.
The road was expected to re-open at 10.30pm, but remained closed until around 2.30am this morning as collision investigation teams from Avon and Somerset Police carried out an investigation.
