Olympic gold medalist Dani King has been announced as Ambassador for the Bath round of The Tour Series 2017 and the Matrix Fitness Women’s Grand Prix when they visit Bath on Saturday 20th May.
Bath will host the first ever Saturday night stage of The Tour Series, with a brand new city centre route, starting and finishing on Great Pulteney Street.
Dani King is one of the biggest cycling talents in the world today. Aged only 26 she is already an Olympic Champion from London 2012, three-times World Champion, and world record-holder for the 3km team pursuit.
She said: “I’m delighted to take on the role of Ambassador for The Tour Series 2017 and the Matrix Fitness Women’s Grand Prix when they visit Bath. This is very special for me as Bath holds some fond memories, including winning the Bath round of the Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series in Royal Victoria Park in 2015, and also opening Odd Down Cycle Circuit in 2013.”
Alongside this, the Council has organised the first Bath & North East Somerset Sportive on the morning of Saturday 20th May.
Called ‘Love 2 Cycle Bath and North East Somerset Sportive’, it is a non-competitive event offering cyclists of all levels the opportunity to cycle either 53km or 116km taking in the best country lanes and scenic routes that Bath and North East Somerset has to offer.
“The very first Love2Cycle Sportive is such a great idea,” said Dani, “In my role as Ambassador, I want to encourage as many people as possible to take part, whether they are a seasoned cyclist, or it is their first sportive.
“Cycling is such a great sport and with so many great events taking place on 20th May it promises to be a great celebration of the sport.”
Councillor Tim Warren (Conservative, Mendip), Leader of Bath & North East Somerset Council, said: “It promises to be a very exciting day of sport here in Bath and North East Somerset, and we’re delighted to have Dani King on board as our Ambassador.
“The new city centre route will provide a spectacular backdrop to The Tour Series, with women and men’s professional cycling teams taking part in multiple fast-paced circuits.”
The Tour Series starts in Worcestershire on Tuesday 9th May and finishes on Monday 29th May in Stevenage.
Highlights of every round will be shown on ITV4, with programmes also available on demand via the ITV Hub.
