The new Local History Store at Lansdown in Bath will open its doors for a ‘Grand Opening’ event tomorrow, Thursday 26th October, from 11am-3pm.
The store contains Bath & North East Somerset Council’s collection of local history objects and is not normally open to the public.
Visitors will be able to see historic spa equipment, such as showers and a Vichy bath – a wet table on which Victorian spa-goers would lie to be showered with water and receive some of the latest spa treatments of the time. Also on display will be original Victorian spa visitor books.
The city’s weights and measures will be on show for the first time, along with Georgian and Victorian furniture from the Pump Room, Assembly Rooms and Guildhall.
Younger visitors will be able to follow a family trail around the store, and the Roman Baths Collections team will be on hand to answer questions. There will also be free tea and cake, and free parking at the site.
The event is part of Museums Week (www.bathmuseumsweek.co.uk). Admission is free. Advance booking not required – just turn up on the day.
The Roman Baths Local History Store is located at the Lansdown Playing Fields North, Bath, BA1 9BS (Opposite Lansdown Park and Ride.)
