The Bath Fringe Festival has unveiled its programme for 2021, featuring a selection of events including theatre, live music, comedy, visual arts and dance.
The festival, which starts on 28th May and runs through to July, exists to promote performance and visual arts, and heralds a long-awaited return to in-person events.
This year’s programme, although slimmer than usual, highlights the best of Bath’s arts offering, from brand-new plays, intimate pub gigs and pop-up street theatre, to comedy and visual arts.
Taking place in traditional and not-so-traditional venues across the city, the festival has “something for everyone”, whether Bath resident or visitor for the weekend.
Highlights of this year’s fringe include Dirty Bath by local favourite the Natural Theatre Company, which celebrated its 50th birthday in 2020.
Throwing light on the less virtuous aspects of the city’s history in the Natural’s trademark comedy style, Dirty Bath will appeal to visitors and locals alike and takes place at the Rondo Theatre from the 2nd – 12th June.
Another treat for comedy lovers is The Memory of Water, written by Shelagh Stephenson and winner of the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy in 2000. It opens at the Mission Theatre today, 25th of May.
The Fringe’s annual street event Bedlam Fair, a celebration of street theatre featuring performers from Bath and beyond, will return over the weekend of 26th – 27th June and will take place in Sawclose, Kingsmead Square and other locations around the city.
Music in this year’s festival includes Noble Jacks & The Hawkmen at Komedia Bath, quartet The Jazz Locavores at Widcombe Social Club and the Spindle Ensemble at St Swithins Church.
Dance, stand-up comedy, film screenings and exhibitions also feature in this year’s line-up, full details of which can be viewed on Bath Fringe Festival’s website.
