Residents across the Bath area are being reassured their recycling and general waste will be collected following delays caused by the exceptional heat that the city has been experiencing.
Circuit boards in the compactors of the waste collection trucks have been overheating, meaning a reduction in the number of vehicles available to the Waste Management Service.
Bath & North East Somerset Council responded quickly by hiring in extra vehicles and is making modifications to its fleet to counteract the impact of the high temperatures.
While the Council’s Waste Management Team works to return collections to normal, residents are requested to leave their waste out and are being reassured it will be collected as soon as possible.
Collections may also be made earlier or later than usual.
Cllr Martin Veal (Conservative, Bathavon North), Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “Our priority is to ensure waste is not left out longer than necessary.
“The Waste Management Team are working to resolve the delays as quickly as possible.
“We ask residents to bear with us. This is an issue local authorities across the country are having to deal with during this spell of exceptionally high temperatures.
“Collections services will return to normal as soon as possible.”
