Bath Spa University is one of a number of founding partners to invest in a much needed space for creative and tech professionals based in Bath.
The Guild offers 3,500 sq ft of new work space including conference and meeting rooms as well as a library across a number of rooms in the Guildhall.
Co-working hubs can be found in cities up and down the country, but this is a first for Bath. The number of creative and technology companies based in Bath continues to grow and The Guild offers a resource to help meet the demands of modern day business.
It provides a space for entrepreneurs and businesses to meet and work in the heart of the city. For start-up and small companies in particular, it is an invaluable and cost effective base for their new business. Various membership packages are competitively priced and rooms can be booked on an individual basis for one off events and meetings.
As one of the first members of The Guild, Bath Spa University has already been making good use of the city-centre location, with workshops, management meeting and networking events all bringing students, academic staff and local professionals together.
Students from the University will also be curating a gallery space to showcase new emerging talent, as well as working on placements and other projects for The Guild and its members.
This month also sees the start of a visiting speaker programme presented by the University exclusively for members of The Guild and invited guests. On Wednesday 13th November 2013, in association with Creative Bath, animation artist and author, Fraser MacLean, will be providing a guided tour of the history and development of animation layout whilst exploring the notion of movie-making as a manufacturing, as well as a creative, industry.
Adam Powell, Head of Enterprise and Local Partnerships at the University said: “This is an important addition to the business landscape in Bath and a developing community which will benefit young entrepreneurs and industry veterans equally. The Guild is more than just a place to work; it’s a place to do business, to grow business – and have fun in the process.
“As the University where creative minds meet, we’re already seeing the mutual benefits of bringing creative students and professionals together and applaud Tom Lewis, the local authority and The Guild’s other supporters for bringing this transformational project to life.”
The project was initiated by Tom Lewis of web marketing agency FirstExact and supported by law firm Mogers, communications company Gradwell and Bath and North East Somerset Council, as well as Bath Spa University.
Speaking about the importance of the community joining together to make his vision possible, Tom said: “I have been overwhelmed with the kindness of the Bath business community. The support of local businesses has been fundamental, without their help we really could not afford to have got this project off the ground.”
