Eight more months of roadworks are due to begin in Keynsham

After nearly 11 months of roadworks between Keynsham and Saltford in connection with Curo’s new Withies Green estate, get ready for more delays and disruption with the start of an eight-month project on a new pavement and cycleway linking the A4 to Keynsham town centre.

The Curo roadworks on the A4 began in early September last year. Originally expected to end in May, the project over-ran, but the latest update is that by 31st July, all road traffic controls will be removed.

Diversion work on previously unidentified Virgin Media cables is scheduled from Monday 27th July until Friday 14th August, which will require a 30-metre section of footpath to close, but no additional traffic disruption is expected.

Work on the new pavement and cycleway is expected to start in the first week of August. It is being done by Galtec Ltd and has been commissioned by Bath & North East Somerset Council as part of the West of England Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan.

The project will be completed in sections, starting from the entrance to the Memorial Park on Bath Hill and finishing opposite the Wellsway Sport Centre entrance on Bath Road (the B3115).

To help minimise disruption, Galtec says traffic management measures will generally operate between 9.30am and 3pm during school term time, with extended hours during school holidays.

Depending on the location of works, either two-way or three-way temporary traffic controls will be in place. Road resurfacing will take place during the evening where possible to reduce daytime disruption.

Temporary pedestrian crossing points will be provided to maintain safe access.

Access to driveways and to business premises will be maintained throughout the project.
