Bailbrook Lane in Bath will be closed to through traffic for 12 weeks at the end of this month, Wessex Water has confirmed, for planned main replacement work.
The main replacement work is being carried out to improve water quality and ensure a more reliable supply in the area, meaning the narrow road will be temporarily closed to all traffic from Monday 31st July.
To minimise disruption, the closure will be split into two phases. The initial phase of work will take place between the junction with London Road West and the access to Bailbrook Court, immediately followed by the second phase between Bailbrook Court and Bailbrook Farm.
An alternative route will be clearly signposted throughout the work, while Wessex Water has written to residents and will be issuing temporary parking permits for use when off-street parking is not possible.
Wessex Water engineer Paul Hobbs said: “Although Bailbrook Lane is an ‘access only’ road, we understand that is serves as a shortcut for many road users.
“Unfortunately, due to this and the narrow width of the road, closure is necessary to maintain the safety of both the public and our operatives throughout construction.
“We apologise to residents and road users for any disruption caused by this essential work.”
Residents can continue to use their water supply as normal during the work. There may be some supply interruptions but Wessex Water will give 48 hours’ notice of when this may occur.
