St John’s Hospital, one of Bath’s oldest charities, is seeking a new Chief Executive following the standing down of Jonathan O’Shea after over six years at the helm of the 840-year old charity.

His successor will be tasked with taking the charity forward to the next stage of its development, building on existing services and introducing new ones.

St John’s was founded in 1174 to provide refuge for the elderly, poor and sick in Bath and the surrounding area, and continues to transform the lives of people in the local community.

The charity provides supported living for 100 residents in six award winning Almshouses in the city, allowing them to live independently.

It also offers grants to organisations and individuals in need.

In addition, it has recently launched a social investment lending programme designed to provide loans of £25,000 upwards to charitable, community and not for profit organisations.

Trustee and Chair elect Liz Brooks said: “St John’s is at a turning point in its long history and a strong, charismatic and empathetic leader is needed to assist the Trustees in developing new directions, whilst remaining true to its historic roots and purposes.

“With the launch of our social lending programme, we are now exploring new and more ways we can benefit the people of Bath and we look forward to hearing from individuals who believe they can guide us through the next phase of our development.

“I would like to thank Jonathan, who has done so much to get us to where we are today and not been afraid to innovate and take us on new journeys.  We wish him all the very best in his new role as Chief Executive of Ty Hafan children’s hospice in Cardiff.”

Closing date for applications is Friday 5th December.  For more information contact www.odgersberndtson.co.uk/50405.
