The West of England Sport Trust’s (Wesport) highly successful Celebration of Sport Evening sponsored by Nuffield Health is to return for 2013.
The evening gives recognition to the achievements and successes of outstanding athletes, inspirational volunteers, great coaches and high quality clubs and organisations in the West of England.
This will be the 2nd West of England Celebration of Sport Evening following the highly successful inaugural event held in 2012 which was hosted by Kriss Akabusi MBE. Last year’s awards saw 200 people attend, with a total of 12 awards being presented, including Children’s Coach of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year, the Contribution to Inclusive Sport Award and a tribute to the person who has most contributed to creating an Olympic and Paralympic legacy in the West of England.
The 2012 Celebration of Sport Evening saw three winners and 7 runners up from Bath and North East Somerset across the 12 different categories.
Matthew Lewton from Keynsham won the Celebration of Sport Evening 2012 Children’s Coach of the Year.
He said: “It was an incredible honour to have won Children’s Coach of the Year in 2012; it gave me the confidence to go on and expand my coaching in the local community with my own soccer school and hopefully promote the game I love to next generations.
“I’m so lucky to have met so many wonderful children from 18 months old to 8 year olds through my soccer school. Without winning this award this would never have happened and I’m now making a difference to so many and that’s a big thank you to Wesport.”
The 2013 Celebration of Sport Evening, sponsored by Nuffield Health, will be held on the 24th October 2013 at the Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel. Wesport are pleased to announce that the event will be hosted by England and The British and Irish Lion’s Rugby player, Martin Bayfield.
Steve Nelson, Wesport’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “The West of England Celebration of Sport Evening 2012 was a huge highlight for me. It was great to see so many of the West of England’s sporting heroes and hear their stories. Our host for the 2012 event, Kriss Akabusi, was unforgettable and helped bring our dream of a celebration evening to life. This year’s host Martin Bayfield is going to take it to a new level and continue the fantastic success of this event.
If you know of any outstanding athletes, inspirational volunteers, great coaches and high quality clubs and organisations in the West of England who you think deserve to be recognised for their efforts, make sure you nominate them before Friday 13th September.”
